We're Adopting!!!

After years of what-ifs and when-should-we, after countless pleas of "when are you going to have my baby sister" and after the typical "it's now or never" conversation, we have finally agreed --- NOW is the time to adopt our new daughter from China!! We (meaning, I) decided on China because of the stability of Chinese adoptions and the probability of adding a daughter to our family. While I prefer not to choose anything about our next child, Julee is over the top in love with the idea of her little sister. I can remember the same feeling when I was 6 years old and just *knew* I had a sister on the way even before she arrived. It's a pretty powerful feeling.

China requires each adoptive parent to be over age 30 but under a combined age of 109. Since Al and I (mostly Al!!) fall closer to the extreme end of that criteria, AND because our backs are not what they used to be, we have respectfully requested a little girl between the ages of 3 and 7 years old. Julee will be closer in age to a little older child as well. Long term, we felt this would be the best fit for our new family. Short term, we realize the inevitable adjustment period just got longer and harder!!! My mom says that she is going to start to learn some Chinese phrases. She figures learning to say "Happy Meal" in Chinese is about all she is going to need!

We'd like to thank our wonderful friends and family who support our decision and are just as excited as we are to bring home a little girl who needs us as much as we need her.
