Albee Goes to Marriott

After 21 years at his beloved Northwest Airlines, there is a new travel industry kid on the block! The Marriott International Corporation is the proud owner of its newest employee: Al lastnamedeleted. He is looking forward to his new career and I am MOST excited about the newest perk....are you sitting down? The beard has to go! Yippee!!!

Ok, so you ask how this all came about? Well, in December 2006, Northwest Airlines closed the Charlotte station to employees and farmed out the work to vendors. This left us with very little options as to continuing employment with NW. None of us viewed returning to Minneapolis as an option, so he was "forced" to retire. On one hand, this was a rough blow to a glowing career filled with great travel, life long friendships, wonderful memories and fantastic benefits for our family. On the other hand, this was the exact catalyst we needed to jump start the beginning of our new lives ALL together with Chelsee. We all knew Al needed to be here in Hilton Head when Chelsee arrives and this was just the break we didn't know we needed!

So, here at home, resumes have been flying out at the rate of about 2 per week...and after a few bites and a couple of other interviews, the Marriott Hilton Head Resort and Spa came calling. They loved Al's openness and personality and the fact that he is an English speaking man with a reliable car!!! They rushed him to a meeting with the GM and offered him the job right then. He wanted to come talk to me about it first (smart move) and together, we tried to decide if this was the right job opportunity. Maybe what they liked most was after a few conversations, he told them he had a bone to pick with them. Yes, that's right, during an interview, the interviewee tells the interviewer that he wants to know why they discontinued the best Sunday Brunch on the island at their Conroy's Restaurant! Only Albee can get away with that!

Ok, now for the fun part! Yes, the beard has to go but in addition, he has to wear a uniform. No problem since he is used to wearing a uniform. It's just that knickers and argyle socks are not standard issue at Northwest! But they are for the newest Hospitality Manager at Marriott Hilton Head Resort and Spa. Hee hee! Life is just funny sometimes, isn't it? The summer uniform of navy shorts and a white polo should be kicking in about April but rest assured, I will be posting a picture of my new husband with his new look just as soon as I upload it!

I'll keep you posted - that is, if I can stay upright while watching him put on his knickers!!!
