Finishing up our Hague Convention Requirements

Al, Julee and I sat down at the computer and took a course called Let's Talk Adoption: A Lifetime of Family Conversations. Actually, it was quite interesting and valuable. The course taught us that even though we should always talk about how our daughter came to us, there are ways to discuss adoption that make her feel more secure and comfortable. And sometimes, not discussing adoption will be the right choice as well!

We learned how to eliminate barriers to communication at each developmental stage, what the proper wordings are for adoption terms like birth mother as opposed to real mother, and strategies for addressing her inevitable questions about her abandonment. I especially liked the parent-child dialogue section where we had to guess at the most appropriate response. Julee liked taking the quiz that wasn't graded! She thinks all tests should be like that!! Al was cooking dinner during one session and he announced that he already knew all this! Hmm, anyone surprised at that?

All in all, a good course! We received our certificate of completion today and now, along with our previous 8 hours of training at the Atlanta Seminar, we have satisfied our family's 10 hours Hague Convention Training requirements. Another step closer to you, sweetheart. Hang in there, hope is starting to creep back in!!!
