Joining the Families with Children from China support group

I ran across a small notice in our tiny local newspaper about monthly meetings for a group of families that have adopted from China. I set the notice aside and promised myself I would call them. In our small town, I was happy to hear that others have families like ours. Then, a large article appeared on the front page of the LowCountry Life section a few weeks later and it described some of the families that are part of this national group called Families with Children from China (FCC). Al was in town at the time, so he got a chance to read all about them too. We made the call and it sounded like a great fit! We met up with them for the first time on February 4, 2006 at the Red Dragon Restaurant in HH to celebrate Chinese New Year.

They're a great group of people - so excited to be together sharing something so special in common. Some of the families are just like us, having one biological child before adopting their daughters. Their bio kids were older too, like Julee, around 8-10 years old when their little girls came to live with them. One family moved to HH just last summer like us. Julee made fast friends with a big sister who has "been there, done that." In fact, Julee actually recognized her from last week when she just happened to knock on the door and ask to cut through the backyard!!!!! Small world - and getting smaller!

I am sure this group will help us on our journey, having already completed their adoptions. They sound so excited to have another family join them. We will all learn so much and I am thankful to have a place to share all these new beginnings. Julee is glad to know there are other kids out there who have new sisters from China. I am glad to have a place that I can bring Little China so she can always remember and embrace her heritage. I bet Al will just be happy to have me talk to someone else about all things Chinese!
