While reading through many articles and email postings in my yahoo adoption groups, I stumbled across a note that said when applying for our visas at travel time, our passports must have at least 6 months left before expiration. I remembered that my passport will expire in July 2007 and Julee's passport will expire in October 2007. So, in order to prevent any delays or denials, I am now in the process of renewing our passports. Al's is only a year old and Tricia and Garrett just got theirs, so they are all fine!
The only glitch in the renewal process is that since Julee is a minor, her passport can not be renewed and must be applied for as if she has never had one. When a minor applies for a passport, both parents must be present to sign the application or one has to fill out a formal document for allowing the other parent to be present alone. That document has to be notarized as well. So, while we are not in an immediate need for the passports to be renewed, we will wait til Albee is with us again (next weekend?) to appear at the passport agency together for Julee's application to be filled out and processed correctly!
Update: As of October 10th, 2006, both Julee's and my passports have been received all brand new and spanking clean....just ready for the trip over the pond! The BIG pond!
