Change for China - Birthday Update

As Julee's birthday approached, she began to ask (beg!) about her birthday party. She wanted to invite her whole 6th grade class over to the pool at our clubhouse. In the past, we have limited her parties to much smaller numbers (usually she invited the same number of guests as her age). But now that she actually celebrates her birthday during the school year, she was reluctant to exclude anyone. So, the pizza and pool party plans began. I set a budget of $50 for this party for a variety of reasons. Then I proceeded to watch her make the invitations on the computer, check the grocery ads for the cheapest frozen pizza prices, whittle down the decorations to the bare minimum and scour our pantry for anything she could 'steal" for her party. It's pretty fun to watch her stick to a budget and make smart money decisions.

Then she made the decision to request no gifts but instead suggest her classmates contribute to her little sister's "Change for China" jar. If you recall, her classmates started this project in the 5th grade and they are still are very interested in Chelsee's adoption! It's really starting to get on their nerves how long this is taking....

Well, we were overwhelmed how generous and thoughtful everyone was. Not only did they all empty their pockets of change but they dropped lots of bills in there too! We received some beautiful, encouraging words from the parents as well. One special lady wrote the most touching poem for Chelsee. It will always have a special place in our hearts. We simply were overjoyed with the response! It seems Chelsee is loved by so many already and we don't even know who she is yet! It's so touching.

The jar was hauled by heavy duty truck to 9 Deerfield for accurate counting and wrapping by the eager Grandpa and the final tally was....ready?????

$298.50

Words can't express how thankful and appreciative we are for all of your support.

How wonderful - I can't wait to meet some of these kids! And great job, Julee for not wanting to leave anyone out. I hope the party was awesome! I can just picture Mr. Eager Grandpa hauling away the cash for counting! :-)
