Meet "Philly"

There I was, minding my own business, skipping happily along, when I went to microwave my lunch. A coworker just happened to ask me if I wanted a puppy? I immediately said "No!" which was followed by the surprising question of "What kind?" Who asked that question, certainly not me! Even though we have thought about a dog for years, we never really pursued it until recently when Julee reminded us of our promise to get a puppy once we were settled in our new house in HH.

Not long ago, we were all hypothetically talking about what kind of dog we thought we should get. I wanted a dog from the Humane Society...some cutie that needed a home. Julee just wanted a puppy and Albee wanted us to get a German Shepard to keep an eye on us. I was sure we couldn't just order one of those up, so we pretty much tabled the dog idea once again.

Back to the microwave...my coworker said that he and his girlfriend were trying to find a good home for his puppy that wasn't fitting in with his other dogs. He had rescued this puppy's whole litter last year when the mom died. He had found homes for all the other puppies but kept this one. Now it was time for this one to find her new home. He told me that she was in the office and to come take a look at her. As I walked down the hall, I was questioning why I didn't just dart back into my office cause I know what happens to me when I see a puppy (or a baby for that matter). I want them!

I'll be darned if I didn't walk into that other office and see her! She is a German Shepard mix and 18 months old. She is already housebroken, trained and spayed. She is probably full grown already but not too big and not too small. I was petting her going "Help me! Help me!" She seemed so shy and scared but I attributed that to her unfamiliar surroundings! Then, the final blow came down. He said her name was Ophelia but everyone calls her "Philly" - short for Philadelphia! You've got to be kidding me??

Well, I didn't need to be hit over the head. I mean, we practically ordered this dog and here she was! I HAD to give it a try. My coworker said to just give her a try for one night. I'm thinking we just can't add a dog into our hectic life right now but how do I turn her down?

It is now 3 weeks later and I am completely in love! Philly is amazing! She was so scared and timid at first but now when we come home or wake up in the mornings, she is soooo happy to see us. Her tail is wagging a mile a minute and she is getting used to other family members too. Garrett, Lydia and Julee are sooo sweet with her. And my dad takes over walking duties on the weekends that we are out of town. In fact, Philly and my dad might just be best friends already!

What a wonderful gift we were given...funny how things work! I keep looking into the future when Chelsee comes home. Hopefully, we can make her as happy as we've made Philly! No doubt the opposite will happen!
